I Am Thankful for Trucks

I am thankful for trucks and SUV’s today.  I know they are gas guzzlers, but sometimes you need a good truck.  Today is one of those days.

Over the weekend we did our pantry cleaning.  Each of us bagged up cans that were overstocks in our cabinets.  It was amazing!  I don’t even know why I bought some of the things I did.  But, today I have a clean pantry, clean shelves, and a clean kitchen.

The kids made the rounds of the neighborhood, encouraging everyone to donate to the cause.  Well, I would never have believed how much food they collected.  At first, it looked like we would have a pickup truck full.  By Sunday night, we have filled almost three pickup trucks!  And, will all the food the kids collected, not one family in the neighborhood is doing without.  Everything donated was “extra” stuff.  I really need to talk to Maggie about shopping.  She is the master… or is that mistress?… of how to shop wisely.

Anyway, we are going to take the trucks down to the Food Bank this morning.  It’s really cold here today, in fact it’s freezing!  But, unloading the trucks should keep us warm.

Every year there are several food drives in our community.  The local television station has one that is really a huge benefit.  There are bins at the grocery stores where people can buy a few extra cans and donate them as they leave the market.  And, while all these are great causes, I am really thankful that I cleaned out my shelves.

We could not have picked a better time!  The Food Bank needs food.  And, as we get ready for Thanksgiving I know exactly what I have and what I need to buy.

Well, I am thankful for the pickup trucks that are loaded up and ready to go.  So, if you have extras on your shelves, please remember that there are more people in need this year than usual.  I have to admit that nothing feels better than sharing.

It is almost time for the rest of the world to get up, so I’m going to pour myself a nice hot cup of coffee and enjoy an English muffin with Boo before we go out for our morning walk.

Today I am thankful for neighbors with pickup trucks.

And, I am thankful for people who share with those who are less fortunate.  Give it a try… You will feel better for doing it.
