Well, everyone is packing up and I’m stuck between wanting to keep the boats out of dry dock for another month or so and going ahead with putting them in storage for the winter. It is just too early to put the sailboat away for the season. But, if Earl — that’s Hurricane Earl — decides to stop by for a day, it is best to have everything put away. Sounds as if Earl is a grumpy old weather system and is blowing lots of high winds.
From all I am hearing, it seems that it is projected that the hurricane will miss us — more or less — and kiss the Outer Banks, instead. Of course, we will have wind and rain, although not of sufficient proportions to secure the metal window and porch guards. I checked all those out last week, just in case we have an unwelcome fall visitor. It’s funny how that works. Most often, the severe hurricanes and storms seem to wait until Labor Day or later to stop by. Maybe they know that the tourists would freak out.
Anyway, we are in that wait and see mode right now, torn between planning the weekend as we had intended or planning to stay inside and read the last of the Larsson trilogy. I guess there is no need to plan on going to the mainland at this point, since according to all projections we will be spared the full force. I would be a little foolish to believe that the sky will be clear for the weekend, but I can hope that Earl either passes us early or loses his path and makes a northeastern turn — and soon.
With the rip tides being what they are today and for the next few days, I guess I better go to the market for lemons. I can see a few days of lemonade and napping in the hammock on the porch for a few days. Well, life could be worse. For today, I do have so much to be thankful for — especially the blue sky.
