It’s still early as we are getting prepared to head south. Yesterday was a really long day for us but it was an exciting one. At one point in time yesterday I thought I would turn into a pumpkin before the House voted on health care reform. But, we made it. Health care reform was passed before I lost my glass slipper. As tired as we were when we finally settled in last night, the day was worth it.
So, health care reform is more or less a done deal. We can only hope that the Senate does it deal on Tuesday and that Harry Reid can keep up his end of the deal.
It was absolutely terrific being part of the crowd. One of my friends sent me a text asking what we thought we could do by being there. Well, the work had been done. But, we wanted to be there. We had called all our neighbors during the past couple of weeks asking them to contact one Representative or another. So, in a strange way it was almost like going to the Oscar’s. The production had been put together. The editing had been done. The movie had been shown. And, it was Oscar night. There were two nominees — ”yea” and “nay.” And, when the winner was announced — well, many of us wanted to jump onto the stage.
There is nothing more exciting than seeing change happen. And, there is nothing more important than seeing what people can do when they collectively work to get it done. So, to that end I am most thankful for a new day.
Now, it’s time to get the map out and pick our next destination. Oh, by the way, for all the GPS stuff we still like having a map — made of paper and impossible to fold. We always try to pick a place we have not been. Okay, so we always end up back at the old haunts, but we do try to see something new along the way.
So, folks, we are heading south for a while. We probably won’t go too far today. Of course, as much as we will enjoy our destination — when we decide on it — the truth is that the journey is the best part. Isn’t that so true of life? I learned that a long time ago. Keep the destination in sight, but take the time to enjoy getting there. Live in the moment.
And, yeah! I am thankful for this new day.
