I Am Thankful for a Smile for Salvation

Okay, so everyone has heard about the egg recall.  Apparently, the recent salmonella outbreak in America’s eggs has been traced back to chicken feed.  I do believe that is the last I heard.  As one who occasionally eats an egg, I did check to see if the lot numbers on the dozen I had just purchased was in the salmonella group.

As older folks will do, I was chatting with a friend about the problem with our food supply and all the failings of the government to protect us from toxic foods, etc.  We have to have something to get riled up about from time to time.

Now, to be honest, the friend I was talking to is one of my favorite cynics.  I love her to death.  When I mentioned the egg fiasco, she dismissed the whole issue by saying, “My eggs have been saved.”

Well, okay.  Then she referred me to her blog about everything under the sun.  It’s a new blog, but she will do well — I am sure.  She is full of herself and doesn’t mind sharing her thoughts.  Anyway, I asked her what she meant.  Wrong thing to ask!

She sent me the picture above.  It seems that while she was on a shopping expedition, she purchased the dozen eggs shown in the picture.  Apparently, she was more amused by the interior of the egg carton than by the safety of the eggs.  There is a Bible verse inside the lid.

I have to admit that, like my friend, I would be a little skeptical about buying eggs that come chocked full of Bible verses.  Now, I have nothing against Christians or any other sect.  It is only that again, like my friend, most of those folks who go around quoting the scriptures and telling me how good a person they are make me want to hold my purse a little closer and take a step backward.  I just don’t believe that people have to tell me about themselves in that way.  We can all tell by what they do, not what they say.

Well, according to my dear friend, her eggs have reached for salvation and have been saved.  Apparently so.  They were still in the grocery store.

Today, I am thankful for a dear friend who shared a little humor.  Say what you will.  She’s a good egg.
