Most of us planned family outings, picnics, road trips and getting together with a sense of community yesterday. Some of us probably forgot the meaning of Memorial Day. We are truly thankful for those who gave their lives in service to our country and for those who served with honor and live to tell the stories of their experiences. With our country at war on two fronts, many of us have family or friends who are serving our nation today and could not be with us yesterday to enjoy the cookouts or picnics. However, those men and women were with us in spirit.
The rain that tried to dampen our spirits yesterday fell short. Those of us who managed to get together yesterday enjoyed the benefits of good food and better companionship. Perhaps, because some of the neighbors served in World War II or Viet Nam or even in Iraq we were ever mindful of the meaning and purpose of Memorial Day.
Today I am thankful for a wonderful Memorial Day and more importantly for those men and women who are serving our nation today.
