I Am Thankful for Dreams Coming True

by Maya on April 16, 2009

Oh, for heaven’s sake, I’m not talking about my dreams.  Most of mine have come true.  At the very least I will admit that I am one of the happiest people in the world, but that really is a choice isn’t it?

Sometimes we all get a little encouragement in life and other’s successes give us hope.  Perhaps, when we most needed a lesson in our neighborhood one came along.  Oh, I do know there are lots of good life lessons abounding.  It just seems that occasionally when you need to share a lesson someone else does it for you.

Well, let’s just say that we have a neighborhood child who is exceptionally talented, but has refused to take part in some school activities because he is made fun of by other kids.

We were all down in the cabin the other night watching television.  One of the kids wanted to watch some U.K. tv probably because he knows that I am very partial to the U.K.  (Don’t get your knickers in a twist.  I just so enjoyed the years I lived in Britain that I love most everything about the England, Scotland and Wales.

Anyway, to make a long story short, one of the contestants on Britain’s got talent was being replayed on a news program.  The young boy who has been bullied a bit at his school saw the contestant and started crying.  He said he wished people would not make fun of her.  I slid down onto the floor from the sofa and put my arm around the youngster.  Even this old dog can remember how cruel kids can be at school.

But right there on the television, a whole audience was snickering at the appearance of Susan Boyle, a rather homely woman of 47, who proclaimed that she wanted to be a professional singer like Elaine Page.  I swear, I held my breath.  I could only imagine her starting to sing and the crowd booing and hissing.

If you haven’t seen it, her performance was magnificent.  In fact, we all cried as she sang her last note.  Her dream came true with one song.  I suppose the neighbor child will take a little longer, but he is now determined to audition for the school play.  He’s got a great voice for a youngster.  And, after seeing Ms. Boyle sing in front of 3000 people he has decided that he can sing in front of his school auditorium.

You just never know how one person’s success can influence another’s attitude.

And, in case you haven’t seen Susan Boyle sing, go to YouTube (embedding has been disabled or I would post the video here) and do a search for Susan Boyle.  You will be thankful you did.
