I Am Thankful for Grandchildren

by Maya on December 21, 2008

This will be the last post until the new year.  Today I am a new step-grandmother.  It’s a first grandchild for our family and needless to say everyone is out of control.  I plan to be away from this computer or any computer for the next week or so.  There is so much excitement abounding today.  And, really with so much to be thankful for, I do hope everyone will continue to share thanks and gratitude.  I’ll be doing it from a distance.

Anyway, this morning my daughter-in-law gave birth and my son is totally beside himself.  The birth gives us four generations.  Isn’t that a wonderful thought and something to be thankful for?  Oh, I know there are families who go five generations, maybe a few who stretch to six generations.  But, please understand my joy at having four.

With the holiday season upon us, it was already a joyous time.  But, talk about a gift!  What could be more exciting than a new granddaughter!  She weighed in at 6 pounds, 10 ounces and 19 inches in length.  So far, that’s about as much as we know.  Oh, the important thing… 10 toes, 10 fingers and all parts are working just fine.

Hopefully, mother and baby will be home for Christmas.  Truthfully, no one thought this would be the baby’s first Christmas.  She was due on the 29th.  Apparently, she takes that punctuality from her mother.  No one in my husband’s family has ever done anything on time!

Well, the phone is ringing again and maybe we are about to get more information on the little girl… perhaps, a name?

To everyone I do wish you a happy holiday season and hope you will return for the new year.  And, yes, today I have something really big to be thankful for… a new granddaughter.  (I don’t feel any older, either.)

Happy holidays,

Maya
