I Am Thankful for Lazy Mornings

by Maya on December 6, 2011

Most mornings I am up at 4:00 or 4:30.  I did not intend my daily life to start so early, but that’s just the way it is.  Admittedly, I try to take an hour nap each afternoon — when possible.  If I get a nap I can usually stay up to see the late news before I nod off.  But, this morning I slept until almost 7:00.  I was feeling good, so there was no special reason to sleep in — except maybe the rain, the constant monotonous sound of rain that had begun last night and continued through the early morning hours.

Apparently, I was not the only one who decided to sleep in.

That’s Graby trying to wake up when I turned the light on in the kitchen.  Don’t even ask what her attraction is to the grocery bags.  I have no idea, but she always seems to find her way to them.  And, don’t get your knickers in a twist.  I don’t use these bags when I go to the market.  I have others, just like these — without the cat hair, in the car.  I’m a real wuss.  I surrendered these bags to Graby months ago.

Anyway, it seems that all of us were having a slow morning.  Or, maybe I was the one who had the really slow morning and the kittens gave up on trying to wake me.  Either way, when I came down stairs to make my first pot of coffee, Graby was still trying to decide if she wanted to open her eyes or not.  It was a slow process for all of us today.

Although I was a few hours behind my usual schedule, but as always I took my first cup of coffee to the front porch to look out across the valley.  This morning the view was particularly eery with the fog and the low clouds.  The view is of Lookout Mountain, without the mountain top visible.

I had to grab my camera.  The clouds and the fog seem to be settling around the rolling hillside, almost as if the side of the mountain had been painted.  If it had been cold enough I would have thought it snow.  But at a balmy 54, there was little chance of snow.

The point is simple.  I took one look at the soft beauty of the clouds draped across the mountain and decided to go back to bed.  What better sight could one have seen to inspire a day of sheer laziness?  Well, I spent the day doing as little as possible.

I am thankful for such a rare lazy morning and wonderful day.
