I was just reading Happy’s blog about gardening and it was as if lightning struck! Our greenhouses are filled to the brim. The neighborhood has been at it for some time and of course, we are housing just about every patio plant in the neighborhood.
Happy was over for coffee this morning — mainly to discuss politics, a favorite Sunday morning activity. I guess we should be in church, but I do suppose church is what you want it to be. After watching all the Sunday morning pundits go round and round over who did what when and why, I was getting a little depressed. Let’s face it, in our world you are damned by some if you do and others if you don’t.
Anyway, as we sipped our third cup of the morning Happy started talking about her knees. I guess that is something we talk about as we get older. I know mine aren’t as good as they once were. But, anyway we were talking about cold frames for the spring. It stopped snowing and raining at least for today so naturally we started thinking about planting. Old folks with too much time on our hands, I guess.
That’s when Happy asked me about my portable greenhouse. I had not even thought of it. I guess she thought about it when she was writing about them on her blog. Anyway, I knew there was a reason for her to appear on my doorstep so early.
Now, thank goodness for the neighborhood kids. I called a few of the older boys and asked them to go into the storage building to look for the portable greenhouse frame and cover. Took them all of ten minutes to locate it. Either I am more organized than I thought or they are faster than I believed. Anyway, they found the greenhouse stuff and had the thing erected within about an hour. I think they could have done it faster — I always have — but, kids do have to play along the way.
What a shock when we walked out the back door! The kids had put the portable greenhouse together right next to the back porch. I had to laugh. They were sure I would want it right next to the house. Well, now that a few hours have passed and the greenhouse has been moved to a sunny part of the yard, I realized that I may need to buy another one this year. Based on our plans — mine and Happy’s — this one will be filled by the end of the week.
I almost feel as if I am doing something sneaky. But, I’m going to order a new one. Hey! You can never have too many greenhouses and you can never get started too early! Two good reasons to buy a new greenhouse. Haven’t told my husband yet. Oh, well. He never complains when those first tomato plants are set.
Anyway, today I am thankful that Happy reminded me of the greenhouse that was packed away in the storage shed. But, I am thinking she wanted it put up more than I. After all, she is still out in the cold moving supplies into it.
Oh, well! I’m not going to tell — or did I? — but I am going to purchase another portable greenhouse. For today, I am thankful that I remembered that I had one. Or, am I thankful that Happy reminded me. Another senior moment!
