I Am Thankful for Niels and Susan

by Maya on May 3, 2010

Okay, folks, if you have been asleep for the past year or so you probably don’t know about International Overalls Day.  If you read The Gratitude Journal regularly — and I do appreciate all of you more than you will know — you already know that November 20th has been designated as our day of celebration for our favorite attire.

Neils and Susan, miles apart but brother and sister in spirit, are the founders of this special day.  Over the past year or so The Overalls Nation has grown in numbers exponentially as its message of living in comfort, peace, and living a good life for one and all has spread around the world.  That is the beauty of the Internet, isn’t it?  We can find and join with brothers and sisters who are like minded to share our purpose for good.

Anyway, The Overalls Nation will celebrate our 2nd Annual International Overalls Day on November 20, 2010.  Susan has created our logo for the upcoming year.  What a talent!  And, in case you are interested in joining us on our special day, please note that there is a countdown timer to the right in the sidebar.

Now, a little about those of us who wear overalls.  Contrary to popular misconception in the part of the country where I live — deep in the heart of Dixie — we are not rednecks or hicks.  We are — and I hope I am speaking for our international community — we are people from all around the world who seem to share a mindset of living life comfortably as indicated by our overalls.

But, more than that, we are a group of people who don’t mind getting our hands dirty.  From what I have seen and from the articles my brothers and sisters in bibs write, I think it is safe to say that we are all into saving the planet, each in our own way depending on where we live.  We believe in family and family life.  We enjoy that special magic that comes from friends sharing life with friends.  We cook our own food, mostly from scratch as they say in the south.  Lots of us grow a good portion of our food.  We enjoy sharing what we have.

My observances include that The Overalls Nation is made up of well educated, highly motivated individuals who are not afraid to speak up or to take a stand.  The nation is brimming with talented individuals from artists to craftsmen, from gourmet cooks to the mom next door.  But, more than anything, those who have joined The Overalls Nation seem to not just dream about what could be, but take action to make it happen.

So, for today I am really thankful for Niels and Susan, who live miles apart but shared a mutual dream to create a group of the most caring people I have ever come in contact with — and outspoken!  By the way, we love our overalls!

Hi Maya, thank you so much for formulating the whole thing in such a beautiful way, it is exactly a whole way of life it is all about, and I really feel at last after 61 years search to have found my people !:)) I can sort of relax and enjoy life much more than I ever have been able to and I am not so eager to promote myself ! and it was really fun to get 3 comments from 3 overalls girls (forgive me for using that concept :) ) and I hope I can get a photo of the overalls commune in your neighborhood and as said many times, I have to come one day and join you for a day or two !:) !
