I Am Thankful for Online Friends

by Maya on May 27, 2009

I guess most of us have “met” online friends at one time or another.  Some of them we will never speak to or see in person.  (I suppose those should come with a “Buyer Beware” sign.)  Some we will talk with on the phone, but never meet in person.  Others will become real friends, not just long distance buddies.

Yesterday, I “met” a very interesting man.  I mention this only because he understands gratitude.  Now, of course, some of you are saying to yourselves that everyone understands gratitude — but, I beg to differ.

Some of us think we understand gratitude and believe we can use it as a tool to get something in return.  In other words, some of us have not learned to give freely without expectations.  Others of us relate to gratitude the same way we relate to our image of the vending machine god.  Please note that I purposely did not use a capital “G.”  In other words, some of pray when we want something.  (I’m not going to get into a discussion of religious beliefs here.)  But, some of us treat God as if He/She/It is a vending machine.  We put in a prayer, “Amen” the handle on the vending machine and expect God to deliver on our wishes into the tray below.

Anyway, the site I am talking about it Gratitude Watch, the man is Daniel Brenton.  I encourage everyone to visit the site, especially if you are looking for the meaning of gratitude.  I was impressed with the site and the man.  And, let’s face it, at my age, there is little that makes huge impressions upon this old bird.  Let me just say that having spent some time scouring the site, I felt very comfortable with everything I was seeing.

Perhaps, I am being a bit assumptive, but after emailing Daniel and hearing back from him, I feel that he is one of those special people that I can consider a friend in gratitude.

So, today I am thankful for Daniel and his website.
