I am once again thankful for other people… especially the neighborhood kids. One of them has been reading from the blog Easter Baskets for Kids and came up with an idea for our neighborhood.
First of all, one of the kids decided that each of them… and all of us AARP-ers… should put in a few dollars for Easter baskets. To make a long story short, the kids have made 100 Easter baskets. To be honest, I am a little sick of looking at Cadbury eggs and milk chocolate bunnies right now. Maybe I’m really just sick of chocolate that is too sweet. We have eaten a few of the creme filled eggs as we made the baskets.
Anyway, next Saturday night the kids are going to deliver the Easter baskets to a shelter for battered women. The women don’t need Easter baskets, but lots of them have kids who probably won’t have an Easter basket unless the Easter bunny delivers. I guess we found an Easter bunny… or at least an Easter bunny suit.
Okay, so we have finished up the Easter baskets for kids. Now, Mrs. Hildebrand and Miss Bessie are donating enough money to buy stuff for Easter baskets for some of the folks at the nursing home. I have never seen Mrs. Hildebrand’s eyes light up in such a way.
Well, most of the week will be spent building more Easter baskets but this time for the folks at the county nursing home.
I guess I could tell everyone how very proud I am of our neighborhood kids… again. But, you know, if you read this blog occasionally you know that I am as proud of our kids as I am my own. And, mine are grown.
Anyway, times are tough across the country. Everyone seems to be suffering financially, even those of us who planned ahead. But, perhaps it is in these tough times that those who have good hearts get the chance to shine. Our neighborhood kids are shining and I am as proud as I can be to know these kids and to be a part of their lives.
