Well, as “they” say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
As I sit on the front porch, sipping a glass of wine, I am enjoying the moment. Can anyone question the abundance of the universe when seeing the sun set across the water?
The beach is in my soul. I have confessed to that since I was old enough to talk. I have no reservations about telling anyone on earth that I feel I am the luckiest person on earth to have grown up here.
Perhaps, I was sitting here years ago when I realized that the universe is full of abundance and so willing to show us the majesty and magnitude of this wonderful world. Now look, I know that everyone who reads The Gratitude Journal has a place that is as near and dear to his or her heart. That is the reason I am sharing my view.
You see, my day has been pretty much like most days around here. We are still painting and cleaning, replacing a few boards here and there and talking to a carpenter about adding a widow’s walk. It would be easy to get lost in mundane tasks and make them far more important than they really are. We all have a tendency to do that from time to time. We forget to look around us.
We have been told to stop and smell the roses. In my case, I stop and smell the sea. My poor husband had to learn to appreciate the smell of the ocean shore, the oyster shells and fisheries. At first, he would hold his nose as we headed into an oyster shack. I would be inhaling as deeply as I can. But, the smell was familiar to me, comforting, safe and warm. For him, it was different and quite unusual. I mention that only because we all have something that is unique to our environments. In my case it is the smell of salt water, oysters, and even dead fish.
Anyway, folks, today I am thankful for the peaceful reminder that I am small and relatively insignificant in the overall scheme of things. I am thankful for the universe showing off for me this evening. What a wonderful reminder to stop and smell the sea!
