Okay, so here’s the thing. I have been about as thankful for snow as I could be. After living for a few years in Beaver Creek, Colorado seeing snow that actually covered the ground brought back some great memories. It goes without saying that snow in Tennessee is a token snow most of the time. Even when it was deep enough to leave not only paw prints but leg prints as well, it was a trace of what I had become accustomed to when I lived in Colorado.
Well, as I mentioned with the first sign of sunlight I was determined to pull out the portable greenhouse. Let me just say that portable greenhouses have issues with 3″ of snow. I tried to get a picture, but something went wrong. I suppose the camera decided it was too cold to snap.
Anyway, with a new snowfall I got a really good laugh. The portable greenhouse looked a little bit like Oliver when the snow or rain hits his back. It started sagging. That’s what Ollie does. Just the weight of a big snowflake or a rain drop causes the orange thing to walk as if someone tried to break his back. Well, that isn’t even true today — but it was a few days ago.
Today I was up at around 5:00 a.m. The weather report on the television was telling us that the snow that was supposed to materialize over night had done its deed and moved on to the east. I walked outside to assess the snowfall. There was nothing, not even a flake. I wasn’t too disappointed because there was hope of sunshine if not warmer temperatures. And, that meant there was hope of straightening up the portable greenhouse.
Ollie appeared from the back shed. He wasn’t too happy about his food supply. I guess with all the moisture in the air it had lost its crunch. Ollie is a crunch-aholic. If it doesn’t make noise when he chews, he loses interest very quickly and often complains.
Okay, I am well trained. I headed back into the house to get him some fresh crunchy Friskies and some water. His water bowl was filled with a solid mold of ice. But, Ollie had disappeared!
I walked beyond the breezeway and looked out over the driveway and parking area. There was Ollie sitting in the middle of the drive, snow falling as beautifully as it has all year. I guess the old boy has become accustomed to the daily snowfall. He was staring straight up at the sky as a few flakes hit his face and body. He didn’t even act as if each flake a ton. Instead, he just sat there staring at the sky — and probably asking “why?”
When I called him, he didn’t even look at me. But, then again he never does. Instead, he stood up and did one of those cat things that cats are likely to do. He started jumping around, standing on his hind legs and battling the falling flakes. Honestly, I wanted to join him.
I guess both of us finally gave up. Ollie came to eat his crunchy food while it still had the crunch. And, I poured a cup of coffee and became hypnotized by the beauty of the snowfall. I didn’t want to be thankful for snow today, but seeing the beauty of it — well, I am thankful for the most beautiful snowfall of the year.

I’m thankful for that same “uncatlike” behavior in cats…I had a little “Stinky Cat” who had the same markings as Dali, and she would stand on her hind legs like a dog and beg for hot dogs with both paws. We lost her a while ago, but I still miss my little sweetie-Hope all is well-Laury
Good to hear from you, Laury. Hope Germany was fun. You are back, aren’t you?
Well, today there is no snow and it is warming up. And, as for Ollie… well, your guess is as good as mine. Perhaps, he has gone on a walk-about. You know tom cats and warmer weather.
Anyone who has observed a cat in action knows that it is an experience in and of itself. Boo, the dog, is cute but by no means as inquisitive. Maybe Ollie will bring me one of those “presents” today. I’m sure he is out hunting.
Hi Maya-actually-I’m in Germany working for two months. I won’t be back home till April 10. I’m doing fine but really missing Dali and Sam. We’re pretty much a unit and it’s difficult to be away from them…but necessary for us to be able to stay where we are. I’m pleased that I’ve found time and means to keep blogging. Enjoy your winter and keep in touch-Laury
