Merry Christmas, 2011

by Maya on December 24, 2011

‘Tis the season to wish Merry Christmas to many and Happy Chanukah to others.  But, to all people everywhere I wish the spirit of love, joy and charity to continue year round.

Each year we celebrate our religious and secular holidays, showing that humans can be humane.  We put on our best behavior and find that we are smiling and full of joy for a few days.  Perhaps, just perhaps, we could try to keep the spirit of helping our neighbors, feeding our hungry, sheltering our homeless, and clothing our poor throughout the year.  The happiness and satisfaction we all feel when we engage in the spirit of giving is worth holding onto throughout the year.

This year I am most thankful for the joy and good will that comes with the season.  My hope is that these feelings and actions will not be thrown out with the used wrapping paper.

Merry Christmas!  Happy Chanukah!  Enjoy the season regardless of your beliefs.  Remember, giving time and service costs nothing.  Donate a little time to those who need it most.  Share the spirit of the season.
