Today I Am Thankful for Laury (2nd time today!)

by Maya on January 18, 2010

Okay, so I can’t let it pass.  I am thankful for Laury again today — or maybe still today.  Anyway, it bears repeating if not for your sake, for mine.

You see, as I mentioned earlier this morning I received a smile — well, it wasn’t a smile that was sent to me, but it made me smile.  And, it gave me a little hope in my heart.  For those readers who may not know, Charles Revson — Revlon make-up — once said that his make-up wouldn’t make every woman beautiful but it would give all women hope.  That was his answer to the question, “What is the magic ingredient in your make-up?”  Revson’s initial response was, “Hope.”

Hope comes sometimes when we least expect it, when we need it most, and in forms that may not be immediatly recognizable.  Laury’s email this morning gave me a smile and a bit of hope.

Boo, The Dust MopOrdinarily, I would have moved on.  It has been a few hours since I wrote my first thoughts of gratitude this morning.  And, for those who think I have been sitting in front of the computer staring at the Google screen, you are wrong.  After receiving the “Love Ya” from Laury I called a few of the neighbors and insisted that we go for a walk.  It was a good brisk walk because I felt good.  Unfortunately, Boo wasn’t quite up to the task.  She wanted to sniff every dead leaf along the way.  But, being a little more determined than I have been in a few days I dragged her along.

Brick Dust and other Necessities --- Not for Cooking

One of my neighbors insisted that Laury’s email was a coincidence.  Oh, please.  I don’t believe in such.  Things happen for a reason.  The neighbor then suggested that I am a bit superstitious believing that one thing leads to another.  Well, whatever the neighbor may believe, Laury’s email and article on her site did lead me to get up and move.

And — I’m not particularly superstitious although I suspect that all of us have our little eccentric superstitious tendencies.  In fact, I stopped sprinkling brick dust in front of my door when I would hear that one particular neighbor — long since moved — was on her way to my house.  Oh, geez.  Now that I think about it, that presents a bit of a dilemma.  For those who don’t know brick dust keeps evil spirits from crossing the threshold.  (I grew up on an island where Voudon is still practiced.)  Now, I am forced to wonder if the brick dust is what warded her off and caused her to move away.

Oh, well.  I’ll consider the brick dust properties later this afternoon.  But, for now I want share my gratitude for those people who spread love and hope.  That includes Laury and  Niels and all my brothers and sisters in the Overalls Movement.

Okay, I am thankful for those people who love and care — and share.

Now, if you will excuse me I think I need to go see if I can find my tiny red flannel pouch.  There may be a dab of brick dust in it.  Never know when I may need it — now that I think about it.

Oh Maya-you are so very welcome. Trust me-the “nay-sayers” eventually wither away as we move on. I just don’t ever want to be the “nay-sayer” in someone elses life! My heart hurts for Haiti, and your Haiti-the Haiti that you knew and loved that is gone now. I have my own ghost places in my heart. With Love and Thanks-Laury
